Golf Club is a relatively new course in that it was built in the early 1990’s. Originally a 9 hole, relatively short course (2000 yards), it was purchased by Neil Burke in 2007 along with an adjacent 100 acres of land to extend the facilities into an 18 hole golf course. Because of changing soil conditions around the course, the type of seed mixture required careful consideration and guidance that John Hughes, Technical Support at DLF/Johnsons Sports Seeds, was called upon to give.

The Manchester United groundscare team has won the IOG Campey/Imants Professional Football Grounds Team of the Year Award – and the club’s grounds manager, Tony Sinclair, was awarded the Alex R Millar DLF/Johnsons & Ransomes Groundsman of the Year Award - at the Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) Industry Awards, held in partnership with the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA).

DLF Trifolium have appointed Craig Spooner as Amenity Technical Sales Manager for the South of England. He brings with him nearly 25 years of experience working in the Amenity industry. Craig joins the team to liaise and support customers as well as help development the Amenity side of DLF’s business.

DLF have appointed Orchard County Enterprises as their new distributor in Northern Ireland for the Johnsons Sports Seed range. With nearly 30 years of experience in the industry, Orchard are one of Ireland’s leading distributors of gardening, landscaping and sporting products and supplies.

The Northern Lawn Tennis Club, in West Didsbury, has a total 7,500m2 of grass. This year it will be home to The Aegon Manchester Trophy, a men’s ATP challenger event in the first week of June. Whilst it is great news for the club, it’s created a lot of work for Head Groundsman Des Ruchwaldy and his team of one!

With the demand from Groundsmen to deliver high quality grass seed products, DLF Trifoliums’ Johnsons Sports Seeds have made a number of changes to their existing formulations for cricket. The recently announced new 2015 formulation of J Premier Wicket now contains 4 top rated cultivars to deliver the desired results.

Sustainability is currently a buzzword and the more sustainable the sward the better. A key problem that some greenkeepers face is that Poa Annua cannot be maintained sustainably – it has a high demand for water and fertiliser and is prone to disease and thatching up if not cared for adequately. Therefore to increase sustainability, Greenkeepers can increase the proportion of perennial grasses in the sward. Johnsons Sport Seed parent company, DLF Trifolium wanted to determine the effects of oversowing a Bentgrass/annual meadow-grass sward with different Bentgrass seed mixtures. Their belief was that putting new seed into an existing turf bed would see that turf taking nutrient away from the new seed. It followed then that their nutrient coated iSeed would be beneficial during the transition process.
